Dear College Student:
24 June 2011
Dear College Student, I am writing to you today to encourage you to consider the words that Paul wrote to Timothy: Avoid "profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called."(1st Timothy 6:20).
He is telling this young man in the ministry to avoid that part of science that is in error, that part that opposes God's Holy word. These are false accusations of science to destroy your faith.
It seems that many of our higher levels of learning have swerved from their original purpose which was originally designed to teach young men and women a profession or a trade. In many classes today they have entered into theological discussions such as: "does God exist; how the universe was made; all religions are right; sexual themes; and a plethora of other things which are not even hinted at in their syllabus. Surely, it is not what you paid for.
Though I am writing to you as a Christian Pastor, and preacher, I want you to know that I have been to college too. In my secular field I am a pharmacist. The reason I tell you that is because young people can be intimidated by college professors. Since they have a few letters after their name they are esteemed as somewhat infallible. No one is infallible but God. Though it is sad to say, preachers are sometimes viewed as a subhuman species, ignorant in book knowledge, and young people should not listen to them. So, I have been to college and I am telling you to beware of some teachers.
In my studies I have leaned something that they will not tell you. There has never been a provable scientific discovery that opposes God's word. As a matter of fact, every factual scientific discovery has only proven the authority of God's word and the wisdom of God. Here are some things I want you to remember as you go to the higher level of learning:
-
You are probably just as smart as your teacher...probably smarter. This means that your I.Q. is sufficient to theirs in natural learning. They have just been at it longer than you.
-
You are probably more spiritually minded than many of them. There is a difference between God's wisdom and worldly wisdom. There is a difference between head knowledge and Holy Spirit knowledge.
-
When they leave their particular area of expertise that they were hired to teach, and enter in to another subject, you probably know as much, or more, than they do.
-
Those that oppose our Lord are probably involved in some immoral act that you do not want to enter in to. Jude wrote abut them: "mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts."
-
If they oppose God's word, they do not like God.
-
If they leave the subject you are paying them to teach, have your parents write or call the dean of the college and ask them to stick to their syllabus.
-
Be respectful. That is the mark of a Christian, even when their mind is being abused by lesser people.
-
Be faithful to God and His house. You will need it during this time of your life.
We need some Daniels today. May God be with you!
